2017: A look back, a goodbye, and warm holiday wishes from The Funke Group

December 21, 2017

Winter is here, Christmas is just days away and soon, the new year will be upon us. The time has flown by, as it always does. As 2017 comes to an end, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge some of the opportunities, challenges and key moments our team experienced this past year.

From a professional standpoint, it was an outstanding year for The Funke Group and our clients. After some political uncertainty in the south had us feeling wary near the end of 2016, 2017 gave us exceptional returns into the double digits. Our clients have done extremely well and we are proud of the work we’ve done to help achieve their goals. If 2018 is half as good as 2017 was, we will all be pleased. Here’s to more good things ahead!

At home, I have had the joy of watching my kids continue to grow and amaze me with their talents. My daughter started high school this past fall and is excelling in swimming, while my son (now in grade 6) showed off his skills in gymnastics and parkour. Both are doing very well in school and I could not be more proud of them as family, as students, and simply for being good people. I’m lucky to call myself their dad.

While 2017 has been a phenomenal year in many ways, it has not been without its challenges. Just days ago on December 17th, my family and I said goodbye to my father, Peter Funke. Dad was a good man who taught me the value of hard work. He and my mom, Stella, raised six kids on our family farm in Saskatchewan. Dad was almost 93 years old and had struggled with dementia in the last few years of his life.

Dementia is a complicated and difficult illness, but Dad did his best to live with dignity and grace. The Funke family will remember him as he truly was, before this condition was a part of his life. A father of six, grandfather to 15 and great-grandfather to 11, Dad was loved by many and will be deeply missed. That said, we are relieved that his struggle is over and feel comforted that he’s been reunited with my mom, who passed away over 14 years ago.

The year was full of memorable moments at both ends of the spectrum, but truly, we feel fortunate for all that we’ve experienced. We are grateful to work with so many wonderful people in White Rock and South Surrey as well as across BC. Thank you for your trust in our wealth management team – we look forward to being a part of your journey for many years to come.

The Funke Group has been communicating with clients and friends on social media for the past year, and will continue to share news, resources and links to blog posts from our team. If you haven’t already, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Thanks for reading and sharing in this look back. From our families to yours, a very safe and happy holiday season. We’ll see you in 2018!
